ABOUT THE SHOW

FILM at LACMA presents classic and contemporary narrative and documentary films, artists and their influences, emerging auteurs, international showcases, special guest-curated programs, and conversations with artists and special guests.

I Am… Film Series
This winter, LACMA presents a series of films by award-winning and emerging Latin American and BIPOC filmmakers who approach their subjects through the eye of the “other” with curiosity, empathy, and respect. The series will explore overlapping themes prevalent in both the U.S. and Latin America, bringing together Latin American and BIPOC filmmakers to find a point of convergence. Each screening will be followed by a curated conversation with the filmmaker, creating a dialogue that offers overlapping yet unique cultural perspectives about the topics of the films. Curated by Vanessa Perez, the series aims to celebrate cultural diversity and emerging filmmakers, while showing we are all interconnected.

Join FILM at LACMA for a screening of Prayers for the Stolen, followed by a post-screening conversation with director, Tatiana Huezo.

Prayers for the Stolen
In a solitary town nestled in the Mexican mountains, the girls wear boyish haircuts and have hiding places underground. Ana and her two best friends take over the houses of those who have fled and dress up as women when no one is watching. In their own impenetrable universe, magic and joy abound; meanwhile, their mothers train them to flee from those who turn them into slaves or ghosts. But one day, one of the girls doesn’t make it to her hideout in time. Liberally adapted from Jennifer Clement’s 2014 novel. 1 hour, 50 minutes.

RSVPs will close two hours prior to showtime. Viewing instructions will be sent to the provided email just prior to the scheduled start time. The film will be available until midnight, Sunday, January 30.
